It’s Time Texas’ 2022 Regional Workshop Series
The FREE, virtual It’s Time Texas Regional Workshop Series aims to empower local health champions with the skills, knowledge, resources, and connections to improve health within their schools, workplaces, and communities.
Each year, It’s Time Texas targets specific areas in Texas to host half-day workshops focused on health in a specific community, inviting local experts in the field to speak and allowing attendees to connect in order to build a stronger, healthier community.
This year, It’s Time Texas will focus on the following regions:
- Rio Grande Valley, Texas – May 24, 2022
- San Antonio, Texas – June 7, 2022
- Galveston County, Texas – June 16, 2022
A collaboration between It’s Time Texas, SNAP-Ed, and regional constituents, the It’s Time Texas Regional Workshop Series will encompass community networking between participants, interactive presentations, and inspirational thought leaders with relevant community insights.
Here are some sessions to look forward to!
1. Rio Grande Valley: Can the design of our communities prevent disease?
A panel discussion led by Amanda Dave, Program Manager at UT Health Science Center in Brownsville along with Jesse Miller, Architect at Megamorphosis Inc. in Harlingen, this session will explore the impact of community design and consider strategies to promote health. The discussion will open up an opportunity for attendees to discuss current initiatives integrating thoughtful design for health promotion.
2. San Antonio: Are K-12 schools vital for chronic disease prevention?
In the United States, children spend approximately 9,000 hours in school over the course of nine years to complete primary and secondary education. Creating a school environment to support students’ long-term health is possible through strategic initiatives and partnerships. Led by Anne Messbarger-Eguia, Vice President of Strategy and Operations at Culinary Health Education for Families (CHEF) based in San Antonio, alongside Raul Salazar, the Direct of Health and Physical Education at San Antonio ISD, this session will examine the successes and challenges in navigating partnerships, review health programming in schools, and identify opportunities to prevent chronic disease within the education system.
3. Galveston County: Nourishing a Spirit of Transformation
Join Kenshara Cravens, Founder & CEO of Craving for a Change Foundation alongside Paula Tobon-Stevens, Executive Director at St. Vincent’s House in a panel discussion examining innovative, community-based programs responding to existing challenges within the health system in Galveston County. During this panel, these two leaders will share program strategies for improving health within Galveston County and describe the mindset, qualities, and practices of health professionals leading transformative work.
It’s Time Texas has also added a brand new, virtual Open House Session to take place June 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. and is welcoming health champions across the state of Texas to learn more about the free programs and resources offered at It’s Time Texas. Participants in this session can join different breakout rooms to talk to It’s Time Texas staff about the various initiatives and opportunities to utilize resources, attend an event, or collaborate further with It’s Time Texas.
