Time to Invest in Your Health
Balancing a busy schedule as both a teacher and a mom, Cassandra is no stranger to the challenges of putting aside time to invest in your health. Now in her second year of participating in the Community Challenge, she shares her motivations for living healthier and the tools that help her stay on track.
What first inspired you to join the Community Challenge?
I started out wanting to make healthier choices when it comes to my meals. My goal is to be a better, healthier version of myself.
What tools and activities are you using to achieve your goals?
I CrossFit Monday through Friday and aim for at least two liters of water daily. I’m also using MyFitnessPal to log my meals and hold myself accountable for what I’m eating daily. Finally, I’m finding ways to make sure I hit my daily protein goal whether it be a protein shake or adding protein to my morning coffee.
What has been one of your greatest challenges when it comes to living healthy?
Whataburger cravings! (J/K) For me, it’s meal prep. As a teacher and mom, I feel like my time is limited, so I’m constantly trying to multitask and get things prepped in advance of a busy day. That’s where meal prepping saves the day. But sometimes that can get overwhelming. So it’s a matter of finding a balance.
What motivates you to lead a healthier life?
I want to be a healthy choices kind of mom for my kids. I want to be their role model and inspire them to be the healthiest version of themselves that they can be.
Has anything changed for you since starting the Challenge?
My water consumption is insane. I’ve never drunk so much water before in my life. And at the gym I have been hitting so many personal records when it comes to lifting weights. I feel myself getting stronger and it pushes me to keep working on my progress.
How do you feel as a result of making new choices and participating in the Challenge?
I feel really happy. The choices I have been making don’t feel like a chore or a restrictive diet. I’m fueling my body to workout. The challenge has inspired me to be more accountable too. It’s the extra step I needed without realizing I needed it.
What would you say to encourage others to start investing in their health?
Healthy choices go a long way and it’s an investment that will bring you endless returns. Start with one small change so that you don’t get overwhelmed.
Why join the movement for a healthier Texas?
IT’S TIME to invest in the you that you want to be tomorrow.
